Can PSE’s take the Maintenance Craft Exams for the various Mechanic, Technician and other positions? If so, which Exams do they take, the “Street” register tests? Does it make a difference what Craft a PSE is in?
I would like to see another Register added to the Maintenance Craft in this order: In Craft Register, In Service Register, a new PSE Register, then the “Street” Register. In this way we could ensure that those of our PSE’s who qualify, are placed ahead of those off of the street for filling vacancies in the Maintenance Craft.
Answers, opinions, comments, and discussion welcomed…
As I understand it, Maintenance Craft PSE’s can only test for placement on entrance registers… that being said, the Pennsylvania Postal Workers Union voted up a resolution that would allow Maintenance Craft PSE’s to test and be placed on existing in-craft PER’s below Career Maintenance Craft employees (the intent being, upon promotion, the PSE would be converted to Career).
It would be a welcome development, particularly with the situation alluded to by a brother in another post, MHAs getting converted and making their way into the maintenance craft ahead of maintenance PSEs.
