May 26, 2014 (NBC) – “Community,” or curbside, mailboxes would replace door delivery for millions of Americans under a bill moving through Congress.
A House committee recently approved a plan to have the postal service convert 15 million addresses to communal mailboxes over the next decade.
That move could save as much as two billion dollars a year, by some estimates.
People with disabilities or who have trouble getting out could get waivers.
